The Team from Timezone Philippines reported a very successful turn out for the first Timezone International Tekken 6 Competition held in Manila on Saturday 13th December at Trinoma Mall. The Namco Bandai officials who flew in especially for the event were also pleased with the turn out of loyal Tekken 6 fans who lined up to get autographs from the creators of their favourite game and watch the five international finalists battle it out for the championship title. The Namco delegation was led by Mr. Casey Utsonomiya and included Mr. Katsuhiro Harada – Project Director and creator of the Tekken and Soul Calibur series of games, Mr. Kiyoshi Minami – Game Director, Mr. Yuichi Yonemori – Game Director, Mr. Yugi Tsuyuki – General Manager of Promotions, Ms. Asako Ueno – Promotions Department and Mr. Yutah Fujishige – Sales Team.

An excited crowd watched the five international finalists play against each other on a big screen. The competition ended with a heated battle in the final round of five games between top two players Andrew Kim of Australia and Carlo Racela of the Philippines. Carlo won all five games and was declared champion of the competition.
Namco supported the event to the fullest by providing Tekken memorabilia as game prizes as well as several crowd give-aways. But most memorable to the Filipino audience was the exhibition (on free-play mode) of two units of the new Tekken 6 Blood Line Rebellion upgrade (Japanese Version) which was brought in especially from Japan to lend excitement to the tournament – this move brought the house down for loyal Tekken 6 players.
Though the battle for champion was hard fought, the Timezone Team reported that player camaraderie was very strong between the international players and many new friendships were fostered as a result of the competition.
The excitement generated by this competition suggests that there will be another Tekken 6 international competition in 2009 using the upcoming Tekken 6 Blood Line Rebellion as the base game.
Meanwhile, congratulations to Australia’s rep in the competition, Andrew Kim (second from left) who placed second proving that Timezone Australia is up with the best of the best when it comes to Tekken 6.
